On December 16, the "Eighth China Industrial and Commercial Distributed Photovoltaic Conference" hosted by the China Chamber of International Commerce, Jiangsu Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Wuxi Municipal People's Government was successfully held in the Hualuxe Hotel Taihu, Wuxi. On the afternoon of the 16th, Mr. Gao Jianjian, Manager of Technical Support Department of Projoy Electric,focused on "Green, Healthy and Sustainable Development of Photovoltaic Ecosystem" and delivered a keynote speech on "Distributed Photovoltaic Security Issues and Solutions". 

In his speech, Manager Gao pointed out the current pain points of the photovoltaic industry: Due to favorable policies and other reasons, the photovoltaic industry is developing rapidly, the application of photovoltaic power generation is becoming more and more extensive, and the market is expanding rapidly. At the same time, product quality and installation quality are uneven, and the safety of photovoltaic power plants cannot be guaranteed.

The solar modules in the photovoltaic power station are connected in series or in parallel. As long as there is a light source to illuminate the photovoltaic modules, a high voltage of 600V~1500V will be generated on the DC side, and the DC current can be as high as 55A. In the long-term operation, problems such as poor contact of the joints, quality problems of the contacts, and aging of the insulation parts will directly cause the DC arcing phenomenon. The high temperature generated exceeds 3000 ℃, which is very easy to catch fire. Under normal circumstances, when a fire occurs in a photovoltaic power station, the grid-connected power supply will be turned off first, that is, the current from the inverter to the grid will be cut off. However, there is still high-voltage direct current in the cable between the solar module and the inverter, and there is a hidden danger of electric shock, which will pose a great threat to the personal safety of firefighters who fight fires. 


In response to this potential safety hazard, Projoy’s PEDS-PL series of component-level quick shut-offs can eliminate high voltage on the DC side in the event of a fire hazard, with high on-off capability and good arc extinguishing effect. The limit range can be reduced within 30s. The external voltage is reduced to less than 30V, and the voltage within the boundary is reduced to less than 80V (the actual measurement of the power station only takes 10s) to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. 


As early as 2014, the National Electrical Code (NEC) of the United States put forward a concept of safety protection for photovoltaic power plants, which is to quickly shut down the connection between each photovoltaic module, which is called Rapid Shutdown (RSD) in English. With the widespread application of photovoltaic power stations, countries such as Europe and the United States have successively introduced standards requiring photovoltaic power stations to install "quick shutdown fire switches". The National Energy Administration of China also issued a related notice in November, proposing that photovoltaic modules should have a safe shutdown protection function. To ensure that the inverter shuts down and the DC voltage outside the system sub-array is lower than the safe voltage after the AC power failure.
